how-to-use-lemon-to-lighten-your-hair

Lemon is a wonderful hair saver and a real beautifier. It has been used for centuries to add luster and shine, and promote healthy hair. The astringent and toning qualities of lemon make it highly beneficial for those with oily hair. Its wonderful citrusy aroma is refreshing, and will leave your hair feeling super soft and clean. And there is so much more to this juicy little fruit.

Here’s what lemon Juice can do for your hair..

Makes Your Hair Shiny & Smooth

The citric acid in the lemon is a natural chelating agent. It helps to remove buildup from hair care products, which can dull hair and weigh it down. Also if you have harder water it will get rid of limescale, and leave your hair silky and smooth. Plus the acidity in the lemon flatten the cuticles (outer layer of hair), bringing out shine and eliminating frizz.

Helps Oily, Limp Hair

Lemon is a cheap and effective answer to your oily hair worries. The astringent and toning effect of lemon balances your scalp’s natural oil production, and remove any excess oil which may be causing your hair to feel heavy. Lemon juice also works to restore scalp’s pH balance, and adds body and sheen to your hair.

Keeps Your scalp Healthy & Dandruff-free

If you have a flaky scalp lemon can come to your rescue. Lemon contains alpha hydroxy acids which exfoliate dead cells, and keep your scalp clean and flake-free. Plus lemon also has antiseptic, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect which soothe irritation and help with dandruff.

How to Use Lemon Juice on Hair

You can make a lemon rinse to boost extra shine and body or use lemon juice with your favorite oil to get rid of dandruff. Lets see how..

Lemon Juice Hair Rinse

To make the hair rinse, add 1/4 cup of lemon/lime juice to 2 cups of warm water. Strain this mix as you don’t want lemon/lime bits hanging in your hair. Apply the lemon juice rinse after shampooing your hair. Pour the rinse over your scalp and hair down to the ends. Gently massage the scalp and let it sit for 3 to 5 minutes. Then, wash out with warm or room temperature water.

Use this rinse once or twice a week. Applying too much can dry out your hair.

Also, overtime it can lighten your hair colour. But I personally love the golden-ish tinge it gives to my dark hair.

Lemon Juice For Dandruff

You will need 2 tablespoon of olive oil (or coconut oil) and 1 tablespoon of lemon/ lime juice. Warm olive oil and to it add the lemon juice. Apply this mixture evenly on to your scalp and massage for 5 minutes. Let it sit for an hour and wash off. Lemon is a no-fuss, inexpensive, and natural way to get shiny and healthy hair. No synthetic chemicals and great hair is very cool!
